CCDGAD: Aerial Boundaries

This is the tuning for Michael Hedges’ Aerial Boundaries, the title track off the album, it’s like DADGAD, except if in you’re in DADGAD the low D tunes down to a low C, and the A on the 5th string tunes up all the way to a C! Be careful tuning it up to a C, usually, 3 frets up is the absolute highest I would tune a string up to myself. You may want to loosen the string up a bit first by tuning it down maybe to about A flat, gently pulling on the string to loosen it, and then attempt to tune it up to middle C, because if you try to tune it from A without doing that you could possibly break your string.

*Chordmaps are an amalgamation of chords and scales. Each chord map can yield sometimes 5 chord shapes in its given key. Chords are made up of 2+ notes in the respective scale. EADGBE has evolved to provide a good compromise between simple fingering for many chords and the ability to play common scales with minimal left hand movement giving highly responsive chords and well renowned chord shapes. Alternate tunings have wider fret spans making normal chords difficult to reach. That’s not to say chords map don’t have good chords. With a little effort some original and strikingly beautiful chords can be found in Chord Maps.

Tuning down warning!
Your bottom E string needs to be tuned down -4 semi-tones.

Higher gauge strings can improve sound and stop fret buzz. For extreme cases, custom strings are needed. You can get custom strings made here www.octave4plus.com/

Tuning up warning!
Your A string needs to be tuned up 3 semi-tones.

Lowering the gauge of your strings will prevent strings snapping. Tuning up and above 2 semi-tones can snap higher strings. Lower strings can distort your guitar body or fretboard. For extreme cases, custom strings are needed. You can get custom strings made here www.octave4plus.com/
